When Claire e-mailed me last month to see if I was available to shoot hers and Taylor’s wedding, I immediately knew I wanted to work with this couple. She told me all about their fun interests (including “great coffee”), so Claire and I got together (for coffee!) to chat some more. I am so excited to be working with this couple. They are super sweet, fun, and up for anything! For their engagement photos, Claire and Taylor knew they wanted to use Vulcan for the view, a coffee shop, and a park setting with trails. We got started at Vulcan and really lucked out with having some good cloud cover – it was a little breezy, but very pretty!
Next stop: Coffee. I have always loved The Red Cat, and I am so glad Claire and Taylor were up for shooting here. It’s such a cool place, and the coffee is definitely GREAT. :) While we were there we walked to another area of Pepper Place where Charlie Thigpen’s Garden Gallery is located. They were really nice about letting us use their outdoor area, which was filled with all this funky garden stuff – loved it!
After we finished with our downtown locations, we headed out to Red Mountain Park. I am SO happy that Claire and Taylor were up for shooting here. I love this place, and have gone hiking on their trails many times this year. The whole park is gorgeous, and has such an interesting history. Red Mountain was a huge source of iron ore in the 1800s-early 1900s, and played a major part in Birmingham’s booming economy and population (hence B’hams nickname, “The Magic City”). If you are interested in Birmingham history, I highly suggest checking out the video on their site. Either way, go visit the park! It’s an amazing place, and is still expanding (I’m really excited about the future dog park that is currently being built). They even have zip-lining and an obstacle course in the tree tops – so cool. Also, I’m really excited that we were able to use an awesome treehouse for some of Claire and Taylor’s photos!
Huge thank you to Claire and Taylor for being up for this crazy shoot. These two were so sweet and positive, and didn’t mind driving all over town and hiking all through the woods so we could use some fun photo backdrops for this shoot. I’m really looking forward to their wedding! But, for now, enjoy these photos from one of my absolute favorite engagement shoots!
Thanks, you two! I had so much fun on this “adventure” with you! :)
